10 Must Own Discotek Media Releases From 2025

Android Kikaider - 1972 TV Series - Blu-ray

Awww, Discotek, how I love you! For those unaware, Discotek Media is an American company that is known for licensing and distributing anime and other Japanese media in America. They’ve been around since 2005, and, in that time, they have released tons of anime, Japanese live-action movies, tons of toku, and so much more! Some of their more well-known franchises include Digimon, Lupin the 3rd, Urusei Yatsura, Project A-Ko, Sonic X, Case Closed/Detective Conan, and Kamen Rider, just to name a few!

One thing that is great about this company is that, while many of their titles are available on the various streaming platforms, their primary focus is on physical media releases. As a result, they are one of the few companies left releasing Blu-ray consistently throughout the year, so today we’re going to take a look at 10 (or maybe 11) of the most interesting titles they have released this year that you can own right now!

Let’s get into it!

Discotek Media’s 2025 Lineup You Need in Your Collection

Star Musketeer Bismark – Complete Series – Blu-ray

Alright, let’s kick things off with a banger! Star Musketeer Bismark is an anime TV series released in 1984 that was cut up and re-edited into the American TV series Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs a few years later. Discotek released this American version on Blu-ray back in 2023, so I’m sure many people hoped this was around the corner, but it didn’t make it any less exciting when it finally came out!

The odd combination of old-time Western TV and toku tropes makes this a very unique anime, and if you are a fan of classic 1980s TV anime it’s a must-see. Years back, no one would have ever dreamed of getting a release like this in America, so take advantage of the chance while you can!

Cutie Honey – The Original TV Series – Blu-ray

The original Cutie Honey TV series from 1973 finally made its way to Blu-ray earlier this year! Wow, what a time to be alive! Discotek released this on DVD several years back, so it was nice to see this classic get another chance on a more modern format.

Cutie Honey is one of the original magical girls, and this show follows the typical monster-of-the-week format that most otaku should be familiar with from other genre staples like Sailor Moon and Pretty Cure. However, you have to remember, Cutie Honey was much earlier to the party! Some of the content in this show might not seem appropriate for kids by today’s standards, but it’s a classic of the genre that any self-respecting otaku needs to experience at least once.

Lupin the 3rd – 2014 Live-Action Movie – Blu-ray

Here we have the first (but not last) appearance of Lupin on this list! Lupin the 3rd is another classic franchise that’s been going strong for 50+ years, and this live-action movie finally received an official release in America over 10 years after it originally released in Japan!

This one is much better than the much older live-action Lupin film, so if you’re a fan it’s well worth checking out. There’s not much else to say. Lupin is awesome, so make your life more awesome by picking this one up.

Let’s keep that old-school train moving with the toku classic Android Kikaider from 1972! Don’t know what toku is? Have you seen any Power Rangers? That’s basically the American version of toku.

This one is an interesting release for sure because this show has a history in America—or at least it has a history in Hawaii, because it was huge there! Yes, this thing made it to TV a long time ago in Hawaii, and it was even released domestically in America on DVD as a result. However, those DVDs are long out of print, so it’s pretty amazing to see it return as a brand-new Blu-ray! Check it out if you want some classic toku action in your day!

Ouran High School Host Club – Live-Action Movie – Blu-ray

Awww, Ouran High School Host Club. Years back, this anime was so huge you couldn’t escape its presence at any anime con across America. These days, its popularity has subsided just a bit, but this live-action version is a great way to experience the franchise without even needing to watch the entire anime series. (Though after watching the movie you may want to!)

Shin Chan – The Complete English Series – Blu-ray

Shin Chan – The Complete English Series – Blu-ray

This release includes every episode of the Adult Swim version of Shin Chan. Need I say more?

Similar to Ouran High School Host Club above, this is another time-and-place type of release. If you remember staying up late to watch Adult Swim in its early years of the programming block, then you will remember Shin Chan. This was a weird little experiment where Funimation made an American dub for Adult Swim of several classic Shin Chan episodes with a completely different script, and it worked! Basically, they turned Shin Chan into a much more tame version of South Park without the social commentary. Yea, there are a lot of gross jokes.

If you didn’t watch this when it originally aired, I can’t see you caring much about this release. However, if you did watch this series when it aired, this might be the Blu-ray of the year for you.

Editor’s Note: You can also enjoy Laura Bailey’s pre–Critical Role–fame performance here, featuring her excellent — and hilarious — work as the titular Shin Chan!

Stone Protectors – Complete Series – Blu-ray

Okay, there’s not a ton to say here other than: who saw this one coming? Stone Protectors was this weird little thing that happened in the 90s where they tried to make trolls into action figures targeted at little boys. The cartoon wasn’t great, but it’s amazing that it received a Blu-ray release in 2025. I’m not sure who was asking for this, but I know I got very excited when it was announced. Plus, if releases like this do well, it will help open the door to more obscure American cartoons, and that’s never a bad thing.

Golden Boy – Complete Series – Blu-ray

Golden Boy – Complete Series – Blu-ray

Golden Boy is a classic OVA from the 90s about a creepy guy that you can’t help but love. Even though he’s a creep, I’ve never met anyone who didn’t love this quick little OVA. ADV really stepped up their dub game for this release when it originally came out, and it’s still one of the best English dubs for any anime ever. If you love 90s anime you already know about Golden Boy, so go pick this one up. For everyone else, go pick this one up as well! It’s a true classic of the 90s VHS anime era.

The Happiness of the Katakuris – Movie – Blu-ray

This movie is insane. If you’ve seen it you know what I mean. If you haven’t seen it, now is your time to shine. It’s impossible to describe, but trust me when I say it’s an essential bizarre Japanese comedy film that would be perfect for a party night.

Lupin the 3rd – The Castle of Cagliostro – Collector’s Edition SteelBook – Blu-ray

I figured we would finish things with a true classic and one of the greatest anime films ever made. This Lupin movie was released in 1979, and it was Hayao Miyazaki’s directorial debut (and he co-wrote it as well!). That alone makes this work of art important, but it’s also really good!

If you’ve made it this far, I would assume you’ve already seen this Lupin classic, but this release is special. It comes in a very nice steelbook, it has a brand-new dub with Tony Oliver and many more classic Lupin voice actors, there’s a ton of extras, and you can only pick it up at the Crunchyroll store!

Yea, this is a big one. Go pick it up right now!

And We Even Have an Honorable Mention

Galaxy Express 999 TV Series Complete Collection – Blu-ray

Galaxy Express 999 TV Series Complete Collection – Blu-ray

Okay, so this is barely a new release considering Discotek released this series years back, but it’s the first time everything is in one set. If you’ve never seen Galaxy Express 999, now might be the time! It’s a 100+ episode space opera anime series from the late 70s, and it has aged like a fine wine. Pick this one up, and watch it during the winter. You won’t regret it.
