Hiccup and Toothless Come to Life in ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ Live-Action Teaser Trailer

Universal Pictures has unveiled the teaser trailer for the upcoming live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon. This reimagining of DreamWorks Animation’s beloved film is both a remake and like the animated film based on the original 2003 novel by Cressida Cowell.

The live-action ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ remake is set to be released in theaters on June 13, 2025.

Leading the ensemble is Mason Thames (The Black Phone) as Hiccup, the clever young Viking who challenges his tribe’s beliefs by forming an unlikely alliance with the dragon Toothless. He is joined by Nico Parker (The Last of Us) as Astrid Hofferson, Hiccup’s fierce and loyal ally.

The supporting cast includes Gerard Butler (300) as Stoick the Vast, Hiccup’s steadfast father and the village chief, along with Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) as the eccentric blacksmith Gobber the Belch. Additional cast members are Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2) as Fishlegs Ingerman, Gabriel Howell as Snotlout Jorgenson, Bronwyn James (The Rising) as Ruffnut Thorston, Harry Trevaldwyn (The Witcher: Blood Origin) as Tuffnut Thorston, and Ruth Codd (The Midnight Club) as Phlegma.

Dean DeBlois, who directed the original animated trilogy, returns to helm the live-action adaptation. DeBlois also serves as writer and producer, alongside producers Marc Platt (La La Land) and Adam Siegel.

On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast, Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society.

With the fierce and ambitious Astrid and the village’s quirky blacksmith Gobber by his side, Hiccup confronts a world torn by fear and misunderstanding.

As an ancient threat emerges, endangering both Vikings and dragons, Hiccup’s friendship with Toothless becomes the key to forging a new future. Together, they must navigate the delicate path toward peace, soaring beyond the boundaries of their worlds and redefining what it means to be a hero and a leader.
