Recap of Season 2, Episode 5 of Silo – ‘Descent’

Episode 5 of Silo Season 2 – ‘Descent’ begins with Nichols still attempting to prepare a suit to return to her bunker. Her relationship with Solo becomes increasingly tense, especially as she finds clear evidence Solo is lying about his identity. Solo turns rageful and lashes out; however, Nichols is able to defuse the situation for a time. Solo tells Nichols that the water will continue to rise, unless the water pump is able to fixed, which is something he hopes she can help with. In the meantime, in the primary Silo Bernard confronts Sims about his plan to foster an impeachment against Meadows. To keep Sims close, and hopefully under his control, Bernard declares Sims to be the new judge.

Following the discover of Meadows dead, and the unleashing of the mob on the entourage from mechanical, they are still fighting to flee when Knox and Shirley are helped by Sims’ wife Camille. Fortunately for them and Walker, they eventually evade detection and make it safely down, though at the loss of Carla who is left behind and arrested. In the meantime, two searches for truth are ongoing – one Bernard is utilizing Lukas to fix the hard drive Nichols found, which Bernard destroyed – two Hank and Bills find Patrick, who is wounded, but may hold secrets these two want to learn about the Silo.

Thoughts on Silo’s Season 3, Episode 5: ‘Descent’

Though Solo’s secrets are indeed still intriguing, the show has taken a nearly 180 pivot as far as the action to where now the prime Silo is the main focus. Bernard’s attempts at maintaing control only continue to escalate, and with the Judges death in the prior episode its clear how far he will go. What’s unclear is what options he has left? Bernard has no real friends, certainly no one he can trust since he pushed away Sims, and it’s uncertain what will happen next.

This kept me wrapt watching each and every move by all of the players from the top to the bottom of the prime Silo, and in away though it was exhilirating it was also almost too much to catch each play by play. What is exciting is even if Nichols’ return is perhaps to be saved for the finale, we’re getting plenty to engage us in the meantime. In fact, this episode the prime Silo pulled so much focus I almost could’ve used a little less Nichols and Solo; however, I like the juxtaposition still of the characters stories and how they’re told this season.
