TWICE Celebrates 10th Anniversary Milestone with Documentary ‘ONE IN A MILL10N’

TWICE could easily be considered a once-in-a-generation K-Pop group—not only for their achievements but also for their longevity. It’s rare enough for any K-Pop act to stay together for a decade, but even rarer for all the original members to remain. When TWICE debuted, the so-called seven-year curse—the typical contract length that often leads to disbandments—still loomed large. Many groups formed through competition shows also struggled to build lasting bonds, having trained together for only a short time. As the documentary shows, even the members wondered if they’d make it that far—yet TWICE defied those odds.

The documentary ONE IN A MILL10N commemorates the group’s 10th anniversary, taking both a macro and micro view of their journey. It features heartfelt reflections from the members on their decade together while also offering a glimpse into their present and future through solo showcases, unit performances, and more. The film is structured around group gatherings—precious occasions given their now-divergent schedules—where they share memories, laughter, and tears. Director Wasabimayo weaves these scenes with personal vignettes that highlight each member’s individuality and contribution to TWICE.

We see Nayeon open up about the pressure of being the first member to go solo. Tzuyu reflects on her experience as the only member from Taiwan—neither Korean nor Japanese—and how her teammates helped her feel included. A particularly touching moment comes when, after the members remark that she’s grown up and may not need as much care, Tzuyu replies softly, “Please take care of me always.” For fans aware of the delicate balance she must navigate as a Taiwanese idol in the Korean and Japanese markets—where geopolitical tensions often linger—her handwritten letter to ONCEs, read aloud in her native Mandarin, was an especially emotional highlight that may have been understated for subtitled viewers.

Elsewhere, the documentary takes on many forms: Sana crafts custom perfumes for the members, Momo practices choreography with her trademark precision, and Jeongyeon—who has faced significant health challenges—speaks candidly about her struggles. Her segment culminates in a moving performance of “Cactus,” though even earlier scenes, particularly those addressing the group’s contract renewals, reveal the emotional weight she carried during that time.

ONE IN A MILL10N also incorporates interviews with TWICE fans—known as ONCEs—alongside collaborators and even JYP founder Park Jin-young. Interspersed among these are glimpses of TWICE’s many milestones: headlining Lollapalooza, becoming the first K-Pop girl group to top the Billboard 200, and contributing to the K-Pop Demon Hunters soundtrack. When paired with the member vignettes and fan tributes, these moments form a vibrant portrait of a group that has achieved extraordinary success while remaining grounded in warmth and sincerity.

My own familiarity with TWICE had mostly been through their music, with only passing awareness of individual members. Yet as someone largely outside the fandom, I found ONE IN A MILL10N both accessible and deeply affecting. It celebrates TWICE’s bond and the devotion of their fans while also serving as a welcoming entry point for newcomers. By the end, I not only admired the group’s hard work and resilience—I understood why their connection resonates so powerfully with so many.

ONE IN A MILL10N is more than an anniversary project; it’s a love letter to the journey TWICE and their fans have shared, and a testament to how the group’s enduring spirit still shines with the drive of their trainee days.
