Ahead of the next Doctor Who season, the BBC announced its Disney+ partnership is ending and revealed a 2026 Christmas Special.
The BBC clarified though that despite the recent end of Disney+’s partnership, the BBC remains fully committed to Doctor Who. According to Lindsay Salt, Director of Drama, BBC, plans for the next series will be announced down the line, guarenteeing that the Doctor’s adventures continue.
Russell T Davies, the showrunner who revitalized the modern Doctor Who and oversaw the most recent seasons, beginning in 2023, will write the 2026 Christmas special.

Meanwhile, The War Between the Land and the Sea, a collaboration between the BBC and Disney+ in the Doctor Who universe, will debut later this year.
The 2026 Doctor Who Christmas special will be produced by Bad Wolf in partnership with BBC Studios for the BBC.
