Following the quiet removal of numerous Discotek Media titles from Crunchyroll’s storefront, MediaOCD has announced a new initiative aimed squarely at collectors and preservation-minded fans: monthly releases of Discotek’s back catalog, beginning with 20–30 titles per month.
The program, dubbed “Discotek Deep Dives,” was announced by MediaOCD founder Justin Sevakis in a recent company update. MediaOCD plans to steadily expand its Discotek offerings over time, adding portions of the back catalog each month with a focus on harder-to-find titles rather than attempting to list the entire catalog at once.
Preserving Access to Discotek’s Catalog
Discotek Media is known for licensing and releasing classic anime and live-action Asian films on Blu-ray and UHD in North America, often preserving older or niche titles that might otherwise fall out of circulation. In recent weeks, fans have noticed a number of Discotek releases disappearing from Crunchyroll’s online storefront, including titles that are not officially out of print.
Addressing the situation, MediaOCD founder Justin Sevakis wrote:
“…as a company with a long standing relationship with Discotek Media, we couldn’t help but notice that another retailer has started delisting a significant portion of their back catalog, even including titles that are very much NOT out of print. We think that’s a shame (and it’s one of the reasons we keep getting asked if their titles are gone for good).”
MediaOCD says the titles themselves are not gone, but that recent delistings have made them harder for fans to find through traditional retail channels.
Why Monthly Drops Instead of One Massive Release?
Rather than listing hundreds of titles at once, MediaOCD opted for a phased approach.
Carrying Discotek’s full catalog requires MediaOCD to purchase inventory upfront, making a full dump of titles both logistically overwhelming and financially risky. The Discotek Deep Dives program spreads that burden out while giving fans time to secure preorders for hard-to-find releases.
Each month’s titles will be available for preorder for several weeks before shipping, ensuring collectors have a chance to reserve copies before stock arrives.

MediaOCD’s Role in Preservation
Founded in 2011 by Justin Sevakis—also the founder of Anime News Network—MediaOCD began as a technical partner specializing in Blu-ray production, restoration, and DCP creation. Over the past decade, the company has worked on more than 1,300 retail Blu-ray releases for companies including Discotek Media, NIS America, and CJ Entertainment.
In recent years, MediaOCD expanded into publishing with the acquisition of AnimEigo, the first anime publisher in North America, and the launch of Whole Grain Pictures, focused on independent and foreign cinema.
The Discotek Deep Dives initiative reflects that same preservation-first philosophy at a time when digital storefronts and streaming platforms are becoming increasingly unstable for archival media.
Looking Ahead
MediaOCD confirmed that more Discotek titles will be added every month, with priority given to releases that are becoming scarce. For collectors concerned about disappearing storefronts and shrinking availability, the program offers a rare bit of reassurance: physical media, at least here, isn’t going quietly.
