Do you love anime and physical media? If so, then there’s a very good chance you own something from Discotek, but, for those uninitiated, Discotek is an American-based boutique physical media label that’s been bringing anime, tokusatsu, Japanese cinema, obscure American cartoons, and so much more to DVD and Blu-ray since 2005. That means they are officially old enough to order their own sake now! Over the years, they have released everything from genre-defining franchises such as Lupin the 3rd, Digimon, and Shin Chan to more obscure fan favorites such as Mad Bull 34, Saint Tail, and Lady Georgie.
Luckily, the company is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon in their newly found adulthood, and all you have to do is look at everything they released in 2026 to see this! Yeah, it might seem a bit early for an end-of-year list, but we’re just so excited about some of these releases that we couldn’t help ourselves! Plus, you could consider this a Christmas buyer’s list for the old-school otaku in your life anyway.
All of these titles are available for purchase from MediaOCD.com right now, but you never know when something might sell out. So let’s take a look at 10 Discotek releases that came out in 2026 that everyone should own!
Project A-Ko – Perfect Collection – 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray
Yes, it’s 2026, and we are still getting new versions of one of the most iconic anime movies of all time, Project A-Ko. If you’ve been in anime fandom for a while, you’ve most likely owned Project A-Ko in one format or another at some point. The original A-Ko was one of the first anime releases to come out in America on VHS, and since then, we have seen it officially released on LaserDisc, DVD, Blu-ray, and now we have another one to add to the collection!
The Perfect Collection combines the 4 proper releases into one fancy release with the first movie in glorious 4K. The only thing you’re missing here are the 2 Uncivil War OVAs due to licensing issues, but the 4K remaster of the original, groundbreaking film is more than enough to make up for that. If you’ve never seen any Project A-Ko, you owe it to yourself to pick this up. If you remember a time period when the Japanese LaserDisc was the best version of the first film, it’s finally time to upgrade! You won’t regret it. Will this be the last release we ever get of Project A-Ko? Who knows, but I have a hard time imagining another release could top this one.
Lupin the 3rd – Specials Collection 1 – Blu-ray
This is what I’m talking about, the first 5 Lupin the 3rd TV Specials all in one place! Wow! This release includes the following TV Specials:
- Bye Bye Lady Liberty (1989)
- The Hemingway Papers (1990)
- Napoleon’s Dictionary (1991)
- Bank of Liberty (1992)
- Voyage of Danger (1993)
While 2 of these specials have been released on Blu-ray before, this is the first time 3 of the specials have made it to this format. That alone makes this set worth the price of admission, and if you don’t own any of these specials yet, it’s a no-brainer. I think most people would agree that Bye Bye Lady Liberty is the real star of the show here, but all of these specials are worth adding to your collection, so go pick this up right now!
Patlabor The Mobile Police – The Early Days – Blu-ray
This collection features the entire original Patlabor OVA series, which has been unavailable on Blu-ray for quite some time! This is a quintessential late-’80s mech classic that, similar to Project A-Ko, has been part of the American otaku scene since the early days, so it’s great to see a modern release featuring the series looking better than ever!
Nana + Nana 2 – Blu-ray
Okay, we’re combining both of these Nana releases into 1 recommendation here, but you can’t have 1 without the other, so I guess this is a list of 11 releases you need to own. Anyway, yes, Nana is one of those rare times where everything in a franchise is good. The original manga, the anime series, and these movies are all pretty much perfect.
Live-action adaptations of anime can be risky. Sometimes you get something like One Piece, and sometimes you get whatever that DevilMan live-action movie was. Luckily, these live-action Nana movies are pretty amazing and can be enjoyed even if you’ve never experienced the manga or anime before. Plus, this is the first time these classic movies have made it to Blu-ray in America, which is a pretty big deal, so support these releases with your hard-earned money right now.
Kamen Rider SkyRider – Complete Collection – Blu-ray
It wouldn’t be a rundown of Discotek these days without at least one toku release, so let’s jump into this one! While Kamen Rider SkyRider might not be the most loved Kamen Rider, this release is very important because not only is it the first release of this series in America, but it’s also the first physical release of this series on Blu-ray anywhere in the entire galaxy!
Yes, this release is pretty amazing from a historical standpoint, and while it might not be as good as something like Kamen Rider Den-O or Kamen Rider Black, it’s not a bad watch at all to get your henshin fix with!
Monster – Collection 1 – Blu-ray
This is a release that a lot of people have been waiting for, and it’s finally here! Not only is this a beloved anime, but many people consider it one of the best anime of all time! Unfortunately, this series has had a hard time in America when it comes to physical releases, or any releases for that matter.
Luckily, while Discotek has only released the first part of this seinen classic so far, they promise the second collection is on its way, so maybe we’ll talk about this one in 2027?
Lupin the 3rd Part 2 – Complete Collection – Blu-ray
Want to talk about big deals and troubled American releases? Well, it’s time to dive into Lupin the 3rd Part 2! This show made its debut in America as far back as 1993 on a VHS tape featuring episode 145, which was directed by none other than Hayao Miyazaki himself. Another episode was released the following year, but then there was silence for almost a decade.
Luckily, in the early 2000s, Viz dubbed a good chunk of the series to show on Adult Swim and release on DVD, but they never finished the series! Years after that, Discotek would release the whole thing across 4 DVD sets, but this is the first release of the entire series in one package in America ever.
The series debuted in 1977 in Japan, so it didn’t quite take 50 years to get here, but you could have fooled us. Nevertheless, Lupin the 3rd Part 2 is here in its entirety, featuring the whole series subtitled, and it even features the Viz dub and those early-’90s dubs for 2 episodes, so it’s going to be hard for a more complete set to ever see the light of day.
Outlanders – Blu-ray
This was a nice surprise! This short little OVA was released all the way back in 1986, and even though it was all over the place in the VHS days, it never made its way to Blu-ray in America! It’s nice to see that these little one-off OVAs still have a home in the modern otaku era, and it really gives me hope for some more obscure stuff to make its way to disc at some point. Can we finally get a release of Call Me Tonight now?
Toradora! – The Complete Series – Blu-ray
Awww, Toradora!, one of the most beloved rom-com anime series of the last 20 years. It’s crazy to think this series came out all the way back in 2008, but it did feel like a classic in the making when it was originally released. Sometimes you just know you’re experiencing something truly special.
This one has been released in America before by NIS America, but it’s been out of print for quite a while, which is a shame for a series like this one with such a big fanbase. If you’ve never checked this one out and you want a break from all the mechs and intense action you watch on a daily basis, this is the show for you. This anime won’t disappoint, but you will leave loving the main girl, Taiga, so don’t say you weren’t warned!
The Big O – The Complete Paradigm – Blu-ray
Let’s end things with a bang! How was this one out of print? No pun intended, but The Big-O was a pretty big deal during the Adult Swim era of anime fandom. That being said, its fanbase hasn’t really died over the years either. Well, you know what they say, Sentai Filmworks’ loss is Discotek’s gain!
With improved video and a much cheaper price point than the original release commands on eBay these days, this one is a no-brainer if you’re a fan of the show, and this is a great place to jump in if you’ve never seen it! Long live The Big-O!
