Michelle Zauner shared that she’s selected Will Sharpe (‘Flowers’, ‘The White Lotus’) to direct the film adaptation of her memoir ‘Crying in H Mart’. Zauner released her 2021 memoir ‘Crying in H Mart’, her debut book, to critical acclaim. In her memory, Zauner covers her childhood, dealing with grief and loss, her relationship with her now husband Peter, and her success with her band ‘Japanese Breakfast’.
Zauner stated in a Facebook post her thoughts on the selection:
“It was a daunting task, to find someone I could trust with the retelling of such a personal story. Someone who could honor my mother’s character and respect the darkest days of grief, and still make the coming of age of a half Korean artsy outsider in a small Pacific Northwest hippie town seem real and cool.
