Nikkatsu released a new trailer for ‘Tsundoru’, which looks at the life of a former idol as she struggles to find a new place for herself in the world while also co-habitating with an unfamiliar older man after a friend’s suggestion to help her get her life back together.
Tsundoru is adapted from the autobiographical story by former idol Akiko Oki who was a member of the popular Japanese girl group SDN48 and AKB48.
Tsundoru will be released in theaters in Japan on November 3rd, 2023.
Mai Fukugawa, herself a former idol (Nogizaka46) turned actress, stars in the film alongside veteran actor Arata Iura who plays the role of the older housemate.
Fukugawa spoke on her role in the film, saying “When I read the original story, I was very moved by Akiko’s struggles with her marriage and work. I am also in the same situation as a former idol, so I was very happy to be able to play Akiko in this work. She is not a lover or a friend, but a supporter who is always there. I think a relationship where both people have a positive influence on each other and are not dependent on each other is a very ideal relationship. I think everyone has times in their lives when they hit a wall or feel a little tired, but I hope this movie can lighten someone’s mind at times like that.”
