On January 13th, ADOR filed an injunction with the Seoul Central District Court to prevent NewJeans, who they claim remains under contract with the agency, from entering into third-party agreements without ADOR’s involvement. This includes advertising deals with various brands.
ADOR previously announced plans to press charges against the group’s manager, who is currently on leave, for allegedly pursuing contracts with advertisers without notifying the agency.
The conflict escalated following NewJeans’ declaration of independence during a press conference on November 29th. This announcement came two weeks after the group submitted demands to the agency, which they claim were unmet, justifying their assertion of contract termination.
Despite the ongoing legal dispute, NewJeans continued to fulfill their pre-scheduled activities with ADOR, which have recently concluded. While the group has not released new music during this time, they launched a social media account, @jeanzforfree, on Instagram, where they’ve shared photos and connected with fans through live sessions.
ADOR, meanwhile, maintains that plans for future NewJeans activities are underway. The agency argues that allowing artists to unilaterally terminate contracts could destabilize the industry and insists their stance is in the interest of protecting the broader entertainment sector.
