BritBox US October 2023: Coming This Month

BritBox is a subsidiary of the BBC that has allowed an increasingly greater number of viewers around the world to watch original programming from the U.K. along with classic British TV and films. Each month they announce additional programming they’ll be adding to the subscription service. Here is a list of titles coming this October 2023.

October 4

The Sixth Commandment

The Sixth Commandment tells the story of how the meeting of an inspirational teacher, Peter Farquhar (Timothy Spall, Hatton Garden Heist), and a charismatic young student, Ben Field (Éanna Hardwicke, Normal People), who bonded over their love of books and involvement with the Church of England, set the stage for one of the most complex and confounding criminal cases in recent memory.

October 10

Lost in Austen

A twist on Jane Austen’s classic novel sees disillusioned modern working girl Amanda Price ‘swap’ her life for Austen’s celebrated heroine, Elizabeth Bennet. Trapped in the unfolding fiction, Amanda must try her utmost to fit in among the Bennets, Bingleys and Darcys, but her presence in the characters’ lives sets unforeseen complications in motion.

October 12

The Night Manager

In this contemporary interpretation of John le Carré’s best-selling spy novel, The Night Manager follows hotel manager Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston, Loki) in his quest to bring down international arms dealer Richard Roper (Hugh Laurie, Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?). Pine, a former soldier, is thrust into a world of international intrigue when he is recruited by a British intelligence officer (Olivia Colman, The Favourite) to infiltrate Roper’s inner circle. To get to the heart of Roper’s vast empire, Pine must withstand the allure of his beautiful girlfriend Jed (Elizabeth Debicki, The Crown) and the suspicious interrogations of his venal chief of staff Major Corkoran (Tom Hollander, Rev). In his quest to do the right thing, Pine must first become a criminal himself.

October 19

Payback

Starring Morven Christie (The Bay) and Peter Mullan (Mum), the six-part crime thriller tells the story of a woman who becomes entangled in a police investigation into a dangerous crime lord. Created by Debbie O’Malley, whose writing credits include Call the Midwife, Humans and Harlots, the drama is produced by Jed Mercurio’s HTM Television, with the Line of Duty showrunner also acting as an executive producer. The six-part crime thriller follows Lexie Noble (Christie), who gets mixed up in a perilous police operation to bring down a notorious crime lord, Cal Morris (Mullan). With an idyllic family lifestyle in the suburbs of Edinburgh, Lexie is unaware her husband, Jared, has been laundering Cal Morris’ illegal earnings on a vast scale. Jared’s every move is being monitored by financial investigators DC Jibran Khan (Prasanna Puwanarajah, Ten Percent) and DCI Adam Guthrie (Derek Riddell, Happy Valley), who are determined to use the Noble family to bring Cal Morris to justice.

Flowers

Starring Olivia Colman, this dark, imaginative comedy follows the eccentric and dysfunctional members of the Flowers family. Maurice, author of a children’s book series, and his wife, Deborah, a music teacher, have a troubled relationship. Maurice struggles with inner demons and dark secrets, while Deborah becomes increasingly suspicious that Maurice is in a secret relationship with Shun, the man who illustrates Maurice’s books. The couple are parents to 25-year-old maladjusted twins, who are both competing for the attention of a neighbor.

October 30

being human

Multi award-winning supernatural drama, Being Human follows the lives of three twenty somethings and their secret double lives – as a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost. This witty, sexy and thrilling series combines elements of flatshare comedy drama with horror.
