Critical Role Announces New Monthly Horror Drama Candela Obscura; Release Trailer

Critical Role, the wildly successful series that features voice actors playing D&D campaigns and one-offs, has announced Candela Obscura, a new monthly TTRPG horror drama series. In addition to their announcement they’ve also included a trailer featuring Taliesin Jaffe as the Lightkeeper who introduces the audience to The Fairelands.

According to the Critical Role press release, this ” TTRPG show is set in a fictional turn-of-the-century inspired region known as The Fairelands, a place of terrifying magick. At the beginning of each episode, an inciting incident occurs, prompting a team, or circle, of investigators to uncover and solve the mystery at hand.”

The series will be a 3-episode standalone series featuring Robbie Daymond, Laura Bailey, Anjali Bhimani, and Ashley Johnson with a story led by Matthew Mercer, along with the aforementioned Jaffe in his role as the Lightkeeper who helps guide along the players.

The show features the Candela Obscura TTRPG from Darrington Press, which uses the Illuminated Worlds System. There will be a Candela Obscura Quickstart Guide released ahead of the game for free on Thursday May 25th, and Darrington Press will release an official Candela Obscura rulebook later in the year.

Episodes of Candela Obscura premiere May 25th at 7pm Pacific on the Critical Role Twitch & YouTube channels and continues on the last Thursday of each month. The podcast and YouTube VOD will be available two weeks after each episode’s initial broadcast.
