In an exclusive interview with IGN at IGN Fan Fest 2023, Michael B. Jordan cites Hajime no Ippo, Megalo Box, Naruto, and My Hero Academia, as inspirations for Creed’s “fighting spirit” in Creed III. He goes on to say that the “brotherhood and bonds” in the characters in those anime as similar to the family bonds that inspires his character Creed in his fights. Jordan cites Dragon Ball Z as well and says that fans can look for a specific punch that took inspiration from the anime.
Jordan is one of many Hollywood actors who have cited a love for anime over the years, though his love has served as perhaps more of a direct inspiration on his character than his peers have shown. Keanu Reeves had hoped to star in a live-action Cowboy Bebop for years, before confirming that it was unlikely the film would be produced. Zac Efron, an outspoken fan of anime as well, also was name checked for various anime adaptations including Death Note and Full Metal Panic, before also confirming those would not likely not come to be.
