Naoki Urasawa, one of the premiere mangaka’s of his generation, took up the helm of adapting Osamu Tezuka’s Astro Boy ‘The Greatest Robot on Earth’ in the manga PLUTO. Now Netflix has announced they’re adapting the manga PLUTO for its first ever animated adaptation.
Netflix writes “The suspense drama takes place in a neo-futuristic world where humans and high-functioning robots live in complete harmony.” Naoki Urasawa is quoted as saying “I applaud the courage of everyone that has taken on the challenge of making an anime based on PLUTO. I am excited about the birth of this new series to win over people’s hearts. I hope that now more than ever, Osamu Tezuka’s message reaches the world.”
PLUTO was co-authored with Tahashi Nagasaki, long time creative partner of Naoki Urasawa/ Animation Production will be handled by Studio M2 and the series will be produced by GENCO.
The Japanese voice cast includes Shinshu Fuji as Gesicht. Yoko Hikasa as Atom, and Minori Suzuki as Uran.
