Netflix released the first trailer for Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE which looks at the creation of “the first global girl group” created in collaboration by HYBE x Geffen.
The series begins with twenty girls contending to join the group, though only a small handful will remain by the end of the series.
HYBE, previously named BIG HIT, is the corporation behind such artists as BTS, along with LE SSERAFIM and New Jeans under their respective sub-labels source music and ADOR.
According to Netflix, “Geffen Records and HYBE — best known for creating BTS — received over 120,000 submissions from talent around the globe. Among those, 20 young women were selected to take part in The Debut: Dream Academy, which premiered on Sept. 1. Over 12 weeks, the group took part in three singing and dancing missions, on which they were judged by a panel of experts from both companies as well as fans who voted online. The original 20 were then whittled down to 10; the final six members who make up the official group, KATSEYE, were announced at the live finale event in Los Angeles.”
Nadia Hallgren (Becoming) directed the series which will begin streaming on Netflix on August 21.
KATSEYE released their first single and MV for “DEBUT” on June 27th with a follow-up single and MV “Touch” released on July 25th.
