According to an exclusive from Deadline, the as yet unnamed sequel to Ghosbusters: Afterlife (2021) is set to star Patton Oswalt, Kumail Nanjiani, British comedian James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind. Gil Kenan, who co-wrote the screenplay for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, is set to direct the sequel, with the director for Ghostbusters: Afterlife transitioning into production and writing duties along with Kenan and Jason Blumenfeld.
Deadline reports the forthcoming sequel is set for a December 2023 release with more announcements to come.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife continued the Ghostbusters franchise that was originally written by Dan Akroyd and Harold Remis and released in 1983. Ghostbusters: Afterlife became a box office success as it earned $204 million with a budget of $75 million, following Ghostbusters (2016) which despite a positive Rotten Tomatoes critic failed to break even and connect with audiences.
