According to an official statement from Toonami, the Toonami Rewind block will come to an end by the end of this year, with its final broadcast likely falling on the last Friday of December.
Toonami has been a cornerstone of late-night programming on Cartoon Network, celebrated for its unique blend of Japanese anime and American animated series. Originally airing from 1997 to 2008, Toonami made its return in 2012 as part of Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim lineup.
Launched as a Friday afternoon block, Toonami Rewind offered fans a nostalgic trip by showcasing classic anime series such as Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, and Naruto. Despite its retirement, Toonami’s flagship Saturday night block will continue.
Official message from Toonami: “We just wanted to say thank you to everyone who watched Toonami Rewind, and let you know that it will be retiring at the end of the year. But Saturday night Toonami isn’t going anywhere. Stay Gold.”
