According to the Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. has announced a deal with Embracer Group AP, who holds the rights to Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit (J.R.R. Tolkien), to develop and distribute more films in the Tolkien universe.
Warner Bros. Company announced this news in a recent earnings call with CEO David Zaslav and stockholders.
The Hollywood Reporter shared comments from Michael De Luca (Chairperson of Warner Bros. Entertainment) and Pamela Abdy (Co-Chair/Co-CEO at Warner Bros Pictures.) regarding their intention with the property, and they emphasized it wouldn’t be to revisit the same ground covered in Peter Jackson’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ Oscar winning trilogy.
Most recently Amazon developed The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power based on the appendices of Lord of the Rings and with consultation of the Tolkien Estate. Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy debuted in 2001.
