After backlash to Penguin’s announcement that they’d be releasing revised Roald Dahl texts, that would update the text for modern audiences and sensibilities, they announced Friday February 24, 2023, that they’d be releasing classic editions with no changes under their Puffin Books imprint. These will be released as part of “The Roald Dahl Classic Collection”.

Penguin will therefore publish both the adapted and un-adapted versions, saying “readers will be free to choose which version of Dahl’s stories they prefer.”

The Roald Dahl Classic Collection will include 17 titles: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG, Fantastic Mr Fox, George’s Marvellous Medicine, James and the Giant Peach, The Witches, The Twits, The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me, The Enormous Crocodile, Esio Trot, Billy and the Minpins, The Magic Finger, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, Danny the Champion of the World, Revolting Rhymes and Dirty Beasts. The books will be published this year with further announcement regarding publication date to follow.
