According to the official Rurouni Kenshin website, this new series “uses the latest animation technology to reconstruct the original story from the first episode, aiming to create an anime “Rurouni Kenshin” that can appeal to current anime fans.”

The anime will be lead by director Hideyo Yamamoto (“Strike the Blood”) with series composition by Hideyuki Kurata (“Made in Abyss”). Soma Saito will voice of Kenshin Himura, Rie Takahashi will voice Kaoru Kamiya, Makoto Koichi will voice Yahiko Myojin, and Taku Yashiro will voice Sanosuke Sagara. In addition, the original author, Nobuhiro Watsuki, will personally supervise the entire story, including character design and scenario.

Creator Nobuhiro Watsuki was arrested as part of an investigation into possession of child pornography. At the time, the serialization of Rurouni Kenshin: The Hokkaido Arc was put on hiatus until it resumed serialization in June 2018. Watsuki was fined ¥200,000 or about US$1,500.
